A&A reviews HIS SELACHIAN MAJESTY REQUESTS

His Selachian Majesty Requests (Book View Café)

by Brenda W. Clough

To read this book is to step into a time machine headed toward the 1980s. It’s a fun story, starring an American one-hit-wonder-alcoholic rock star, Cam, who reluctantly inherits the kingship of a small island nation between the Philippines and China. He’s going to turn the king gig down. But then the sharks start singing to him, not only confirming he really is their king but giving him some cool music that he cannot shake and must share.

And eventually, with the help of his relatives, his people, and the sharks, Cam redeems himself and changes the world. It’s a really fun book, but it also covers very deep waters: plumbing the depths of what family, love, and flawed people can do with perhaps a divine mandate and doing the best one can with the gifts one has.

You’ll enjoy it.
