A&A Reviews UNICORN VISIONS by Jo Boone

Unicorn Visions

by Jo Boone

Unicorn Visions, a collection by Jo Boone, tells me that Boone is one of those authors who can write in both the short and long form—short stories as well as novels—with equal ease. Each of these tales uses a simple “what if?” premise, but twists and refines it into something unforgettable.

I had only read one of her short stories before this: her “The Waters of Callisto” in the Challenge Accepted anthology, and it was—like her amazing novels—sci fi. But the stories in this book also prove that she is just as adept at writing fantasy as she is in writing science fiction. Whether dealing with an unexpected unicorn in an apartment, an imaginary grandmother in a living room, a rapacious toad in an office, a thieving storyteller on an airplane, a hostile murder of crows on a balcony, or sneering lioness in a bedroom, Boone makes it all seem real and believable.

Curl up with your favorite beverage in a comfy chair and enjoy this collection. I predict you will re-read and enjoy it many times.
