A&A Reviews IN FLUX

In Flux (Fenian House Publishing)

by Sean Fenian

Talk about a stunning opening! A man slows time long enough to roll it back a few slow-as-syrup seconds and save the life of a woman who’s body about to be murdered. She survives, and he takes her to his home in a strange dimension he calls the Flux.

As a child, Justin—at least that’s what he calls himself—escaped from a brutal orphanage by slipping out of his time stream into the Flux. Now he gave this woman whom he does not know a last-second escape from her world and time stream. He shows her how things work there, and she slowly learns the seeming magic of a place where Flux is potential, but you have to tell it what to become.

She can never go home, but Justin’s island of reality in the midst of this formless place becomes her home. He introduces her to the various strange beings that inhabit their own islands in the Flux.

But they have to be careful. Some of the other inhabitants of the Flux may be noble and friendly, but others are hostile. And then something threatens all of the Flux and its inhabitants, where they all have to work together to avert annihilation.

In Flux is very hard to categorize. It’s part historical novel, part fantasy, part sci-fi, and part romance. And it works on all those levels. A very enjoyable and satisfying read!
